Spam and Peanut Butter Cookies

 08 Jan 2013   Food

spam1

I have no idea whether to be completely grossed out or if my mouth is telling me that I need one of these. I have so many conflicting emotions about this cookie. On the one hand, it’s pretty much like bacon chocolate chip cookies, right? And I like spam.

On the other hand, it’s a spam and peanut butter cookie.

This is the culinary equivalent of a war crime.

Just wait until some asshole at the Texas State Fair deep fries one.

Spam, no. Bacon, ….I’d try one.

    How about no?

Spam is the most disgusting “food” that exists and I know a lot of people who like it, mostly friends from Japan or Hawaii, but I don’t understand why. It’s fake “meat” in a can…The strange meat block is so bad that we use it as a term to describe unsolicited junk mail.

To people who enjoy spam: If you like it then that’s fine but don’t talk shit about McDonald’s infamous “pink slime.”

Here’s a story: I actually volunteered at a homeless shelter where even the starving homeless were disgusted by the fake meat. One homeless woman was actually offended that we even offered Spam for food.

While spam isn’t high quality, it is meat. All of the meat in spam is pork shoulder and ham; it doesn’t have any junk parts that people like to imagine are in there. While it is processed for long-term storage, it is a significant step up in meat quality than things like hotdogs. The primary advantage of spam is it can be stored basically forever without refrigeration, so it is an excellent as an emergency food item, and also for places where fresh meat is difficult or impossible to come by.

It’s in the top 5 of my “Must Have Food Items In Case Of A Hurricane” list.

      • L_Ron_Hoover

Thanks for the info but I am still disgusted by Spam and I rather eat pink slime from McDonalds.

      “Fake” meat? lol
It’s seasoned pork that is canned. You wouldn’t call canned salmon or tuna “fake” fish, would you? Same basic process.

    • MynameisBlarney

Try “potted meat” and get back to me.

        • MynameisBlarney

That is probably way tastier than potted meat.

The reason the term is used to describe junk mail has nothing to do with what Spam is made of, it’s because of the repetitive nature in which your inbox is hit. It comes from the Monty Python sketch where a restaurant’s menu contained egg and spam,
egg bacon and spam, egg bacon sausage and spam, spam bacon sausage
and spam, spam egg spam spam bacon and spam, spam sausage spam spam
bacon spam tomato and spam, etc.

      • L_Ron_Hoover

Yes, I checked wikipedia on that before I posted this. Believe me I know and I love Monty Python.

          “BUT I DON’T WANT SPAM”
          - “You can try the “spam & spam”, that does not have much spam in it…..”

          (man, that’s sketch is great…)

          • L_Ron_Hoover

It’s true. Nothing beats Python to date.

Gross. I would never eat Skippy peanut butter.

      Spam cookies?

  • CADPIG

are these real cookies or is this just an advert for the fact that Hormel (makes spam) just bought skippy?
