One of the Most Adorable Puppies Ever

21 Sep 2012   Cute Animals, Video, Youtube

Nathan, the American Pit Bull Terrier/Boxer mix, is so happy to have been adopted by his new parents, ModernPrimate and Whitney, that he just can’t contain himself.

Watch as they adopt this Velociraptor…dog. THOSE EARS.

    Aieeeee! The cute!

We’ve been fostering a puppy for a local shelter for a few weeks, and he looks a LOT like this guy, but black with a white chest. I’ve been trying to figure out what he might be. My guess is black lab mixed with boxer or some sort of hound. He’s got the skinny tail and slightly bigger ears than this guy. SO CUTE. :3

In my most humble opinion….mutts are the best types of dogs.

I’ve always wondered about fostering. Ever since we had to put our old German Sheppard down we’ve been looking at getting a new dog, but after you see all of the dogs already in shelters it feels wrong to get a puppy. Do you just foster them until they get adopted? Is it hard to let them go?

just don’t buy a puppy from a shop. there’s so many dogs in shelters, old and young, they all deserve a good home.

Most shelters are pretty flexible about who and how long you foster–it just depends on what they need. For instance, at this shelter they only need puppy foster parents if the puppy is sick somehow and wouldn’t do well in a shelter. Our puppy had “puppy strangles” and needed to be on antibiotics and steroids for a few weeks, and a clean environment. Sometimes a dog with a new litter of pups needs to be fostered. Commonly it’s older dogs who need to be fostered until they’re adopted. I really wanted to do the latter but my husband really wanted a puppy. ;)

It’s REALLY hard to let them go. Especially in this case, knowing he’ll be going back into the shelter and I don’t know when he’ll get adopted. I’m sure the shelter would let us keep fostering him, but I’m starting a new job next week and he’s still rather high-maintenance (and is getting HUGE!). So we think it’s best that now he’s all better he go back. :’(

Cute dog. Tiny apartment. Hope they take it for lots of walks, or it will get neurotic.

    • MynameisBlarney

Lots of walks and take it somewhere it can run around like an idiot.
Good for the dog, and the dogs owners.

Ugh. My roommate’s girlfriend moved in (without my prior knowledge or assent), and brought her 5 month old Rottweiler pup. He’s now 9 months old, and the poor thing gets punished for the trouble he causes when he’s allowed out of his cage, which he’s stuck in more often than not because she sits around all day playing video games instead of taking him outside. I’ve tried taking him out, but because she undermines everyone else when they attempt to train him to listen to our commands, it becomes a herculean task keeping him from trying to chase everything.

I don’t get how people get these dogs without understanding that THEY NEED PLAYTIME AND WALKS.

Some people should not be allowed to have dogs.

I’m concerned the novelty will wear off when the dog chews stuff up if left alone for long periods in a tiny apartment…

I’ll consider it a ‘success’ story if they still have the dog 2 years from now.

    • MynameisBlarney

      Kennel training.

      • Blinghamstar

Sure, and it looks like they’ve got one, so that’s good. I’m hoping it works out, of course. I’m just a realist. Some dogs break their teeth on the kennel bars because they can’t handle being cooped up for extended periods.

Hopefully that couple either employs a dog-sitter or have the time between the two of them to make sure the dog’s never cooped up longer than 4 hours at a stretch.

        • MynameisBlarney

Yeah, not good to keep them cooped up longer than 4 hours, not good for their innards. Or happiness.

        • lottesometimes

I don’t get the kennel thing. I’ve never seen them in Eurpe and I don’t think they’re necessary. If anything i find it cruel to lock an animal up in a box that small.

  • aslowdescent

Like that they seem to have been watching Downton Abbey. Don’t like that it looks like that’s a studio if that’s a loft bed I’m seeing… yikes.

  • Luna93

Absolutely adorable, but oof, I hope they move to a bigger space. My best friend has a pit/boxer mix and by proxy, she is my dog. They get BIG. She can put her paws on my shoulders and I’m 5’7″.

    • MynameisBlarney

I doubt it’s got pit in it if it’s that big, pure breed pit bulls are fairly small, if they get to 50 lbs, they’re probably overweight.
Could be American Bulldog or Labrador mixed in even.

      • Luna93

It probably does, though she has more boxer in her than pit, as far as I know.
