Oh, Fox News…You Need Better Fact People

10 Jan 2013   Entertainment, Fail, Politics

fox news trillion dollar coin

No, Fox News. That’s not how the trillion dollar coin works. And no, NRCC, it will not be so heavy that it would sink the Titanic.

Oh dear. Someone who understands how money works should probably head on over to their station and explain it to them.

A silver dollar weighs less than 100 pennies, you can’t explain that!

  • Terence Ng

*groan* Goddamnit, Fox. I don’t even LIKE anything you stand for and I feel bad for you.

  • Sigmund_Jung

Better fact people? How about nobody in the production process from editorial to artwork smelled anything? It’s not like this was an on air slip.

    • Placenta

I imagine Fox is the kind of place where you don’t point out mistakes if you want to keep your job (even more so than other media/entertainment outlets).

Why would people still want to work there for the sake of their livelihood?

        • IronEdithKidd

Considering that screenshot looks masterfully trollish, I’d hazard that some serious pranksters work at Faux.

FIAT CURRENCY, MOFUGGA, CAN YOU UNDERSTAND IT?

    • Sigmund_Jung

      I prefer this Fiat

    Um…
Facts and faxu noiz are diametrically opposed.
Fox went to court to be able to lie to their viewers, and they won.
    Facts mean nothing to them.

    • Annie

The case wasn’t so straight forward but the court did rule that Fox (or any other news agency) is not obligated by law to report truthfully.

It’s actually an interesting case: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Akre

I am laughing so hard right now. I figure if I laugh hard enough it will keep me from crying. We are all fucked.

Is Fox News competiting with the Onion?

  • hidflect

I expect nothing from Fux News. Once they showed a graphic displaying the Channel Islands offshore from Australia. They’re actually off the British coast. Basic geography? Fcked. Yeehaw! USA USA USA. Booyah! Sempa Phi!! Death to Communists!

  • PhiloteSplitter

Perhaps I’m missing something, but aren’t they comparing the weight of a trillion dollar coin with the weight of the same amount of money in a lower denomination? Every calculation I did (with pennies or bills) came out to be much heavier though (I may have made a mistake, just did it with google calculator).

    • JeremiahCatclaw

My guess: They were assuming that $1 trillion worth of platinum would be used to make the coin, because that’s definitely how money works. From (very) rough calculations of my own, they’re actually about 2,200 tons short. I got 19942.565.

      • PhiloteSplitter

Ah yes that looks about right. Ok, benefit of the doubt given, they’re idiots.

      • IronEdithKidd

…because that’s definitely how money works

Bwahahahaha! I wonder how they think paper currency works.

WHY DOES A HUNDRED-DOLLAR BILL NOT WEIGH 100 SINGLES *head a splode*

      • Sigmund_Jung

It took me a while to understand what they were doing, because every time I thought “no, they couldn’t be doing that, it would be so stupid”. But then I stopped resisting. Yes, that’s what they did.

Interesting facts which tie in to this article: the blue whale has the largest penis of any living creature, measuring an average 8 feet long. A blue whale named Mitch once defeated 10 Godzilllas using only his penis, before putting on the world’s largest pair of sunglasses and swimming away.

Guess those Godzillas were left with…

      A whale of a tale.

And these are the guys complaining and telling the government what to do.

  • Timerider

    Ask Mr. Burns.

  • http://XDInd.com/ Adam

Is it any less silly than minting a trillion dollar coin?

If just printing more money would solve our problems, why is there any debt to begin with?
