Hey gang! Here’s something the Internet just gave me.
Seattle-based rapper Macklemore gave a brief, intimate performance as a part of NPR Music’s ongoing Tiny Desk Concert series. Real talk, gang – this would make me feel all kinds of awkward. Something about a guy rapping at me in a small, intimate setting, hopping on tables, bringing along his hype man/trumpet player…oof, I would just want to hide in a corner. It seems his producer Ryan Lewis knows what I’m talking about as he basically just sits back and presses play on iTunes when he’s required to. Good work, Ryan. You are the real hero.
Anyway, Macklemore, resplendant in a salmon button-up and a bolo tie, gives a pretty impassioned performance here, defying hip-hop cliches by thoughtfully exploring homosexuality and big-upping his thrift store obsession. He still has to say bitch, though. You just have to say bitch.
Anyway, here are my favorite things about this video:
1. Macklemore trying to hype the crowd with a party starting “NPRrrrrrrrrrrrrr!” Whew…swish.
2. Basically everything Ray Dalton does.
