In the past, a host was just a familiar face that we liked to see act silly with a bunch of talented comedians. The show was funny with or without them, but it was a blast to see a politician (Rudy Giuliani), an olympian (Nancy Kerrigan springs to mind), or a number of other people we typically see in a very serious, intense setting acting like fools to well-written comedy. Nowadays, the show is so, so bad that they need a celebrity with his *own* comedic talent to save the show from sucking. Justin makes the show decent again when he hosts, because otherwise, the show is unwatchable. The writing is uncomedic, and the actors… well that brings me to my next point.The actors on the show used to be new comedians who were just getting their foot in the door to success. God, I mean… Chevy Chase, Dan Akroyd, Jon Belushi, Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Billy Crystal, Martin Short… etc, etc. The list goes on and on with comedic actors who are still household names decades after their time on that show. Amy Poehler, Andy Samburg, and Tina Fey are the only two recent cast members of that show who were actually talented. However, even they will most likely not be all that remembered in 30 years. And then you look at the current line-up… and see that Fred Armison is the only reasonably funny actor on the show right now.

SNL has run its course, and it’s sad to say (because I have so many positive memories of it from the 90s and early 00s) but it’s time to go.
