This just might be one of the coolest birthday presents ever and, even as an adult, you should totally be jealous.
For Jonah’s 13th birthday, his dad Travis rented out the SunRay Cinema in the Historic Riverside District of Jacksonville, FL (so, I guess cool things do actually happen in Florida…touche, Florida). The total cost was only $300 for five hours, including unlimited beverages and pizza (FOREVER PIZZA…awesome), which, if you think in terms of most birthday parties, is pretty reasonable.
So, what did they do with this theater all to themselves? Travis and the crew from SunRay set up a few consoles and let them play video games on the big screen for the entire five hours. They played everything from Fallout 3 to Skyrim, as well as Minecraft, Terraria, Halo (10th Anniversary Edition), COD Black Ops II, Crysis 2, and Portal. Apparently, Dead Space 2 only lasted a total of five minutes, because if you can imagine Dead Space 2 on the big screen…well, even I won’t do that. That’s just scary.
The controllers apparently worked from everywhere in the theater, letting Jonah pretty much use the entire space to test out where would be the most epic place to game from. All in all, an amazing birthday present that I’m sure Jonah won’t be forgetting any time soon.
And just in case you were thinking that Jonah must be extremely spoiled, let me just tell you something totally awesome that will make you think, “Man, that kid really deserved an awesome party.” Jonah has Type 1 Diabetes and regularly does fundraising events for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and The Walk To Cure Diabetes. A pretty cool kid that deserves a cool birthday party. Kind of reminds me of when my parents rented out a ranch for my 13th birthday…but, you know, with less first person shooting and stuff.
Now, tell me about your awesome birthday parties or just live vicariously through Jonah because, let’s face it, it’d be pretty hard to top this.
More pics after the jump.
