2013 Nemo Blizzard Recap

 10 Feb 2013   News, Weather

Nemo, the 2013 monster blizzard, has barreled through the tri-state region, dumping massive amounts of snow in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine, and parts of New York. 650,000 homes were without power as of Saturday morning, with 300,000 of those in Massachusetts. Parts of Rhode Island had drifts that were over 5 feet high, while residents in other parts of the Northeast shoveled through up to 2 feet of snow.

Huffpo reports that five deaths are a direct result of the blizzard, including an 11-year old boy who died due to carbon monoxide poisoning as he waited in a running car while his father finished shoveling.

We hope all our readers in the Northeast are staying safe!

Freeze frame of the guy and his dog jumping.

Dude is going to be in a shit tonne of pain when that lands, snow is deceptively compactable.

    • evilplatypus

I did that this morning while shoveling out my car. It wasn’t painful at all. Yes it compacted, but it was so soft and fluffy that it took a foot or so for it to compact, giving plenty of cushiony slow-down time.

Totally depends on how cold it is/what the dew point is. Snow can either be super dense and hard, or extremely soft and fluffy.

Actually, just a few weeks ago, my train pulled into the station, but there was so much fresh snow, I couldn’t tell which side the platform was on. I don’t think the driver knew, either, because the doors on both sides opened. I went out the wrong side, and fell a good 1.5 meters onto the train tracks. Because of the snow, it felt awesome and there was no injury. I’d surely have broken bones without the snow…

Holy shit! you could have been seriously injured…

For real, it’s a pretty scary thought!! Thank god for the snow breaking my fall as it did!

Ugly, ugly kid in the second to lat picture. Even if it weren’t crying.
